Discord is a text and voice chat service that allows players to communicate via chat. What many people don’t know is that in addition to chatting, it also offers a complete solution for video calls and screen sharing.
At the same time, 10 Discord users can share screens, which means that you and 9 other friends can use your screens on the Discord server at the same time. You do not need to install any other third party software or programs to use the screen sharing feature.
The screen sharing feature has made Discord a very useful software, especially for teams that meet online remotely. The Discord application supports both mobile and desktop platforms.
This article describes how to configure and manage screen sharing on the Discord server.
Setting up Diskord Screen Sharing and Video Calls
The on-screen display function was introduced in August 2017. In addition to sharing the screen, you can also make video calls simultaneously, which is one of Discord’s best built-in features.
To start sharing screens and making video calls, make sure the audio and video devices on the client side are properly configured.

Video and camera settings
To access the disc sharing screen, you must first change some settings on the settings page.
Step one: Go to the settings page. To do so, click on the gear icon to the right of the username in the lower left hand corner of the screen.
Step two: Scroll down to Application Settings and touch Voice and Video to configure voice and video call settings.
Step three: If you browse the same section, you will find the settings for the video. Select the camcorder from the drop-down menu.
Step four: In the right window you will see the option Test video. Click the Test Video button to check if everything is working properly or not.
Pay attention: If you are using the browser instead of the Discord application, you must allow access to the camera and microphone. To authorize access to the camera, a pop-up window will appear in the top left corner where you must click on the Allow button.
Adding friends to the call list
If you don’t have any friends on the list, who would you call? Therefore, to start a video call, you must first add your friends to the Discordance call group. Once you’ve added all the friends you want to make a video call with, you can start making a video call.
You can make a video call with your friends as follows:
Step one: Go to the home page by clicking on the divergence icon (in the top left corner of the application).
Step two: Click on the Friends button to open the list of added friends.
Step three: Tap the user name of the friend you want to make a video call with. The DM window will open on your screen and you will see the video call icon at the top.
Step four: To make a quick video call, touch the three vertical points and click Start Video Call.
Pay attention: If you are using the Conversation application on your mobile phone (Android or iOS), you can make a video call by pressing the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the application.
Screensharing and video communication capabilities on the desktop
There are several functions you can use to organize things after the call has started. Even if you switch to another window or a DM server, your video is displayed as picture-in-picture. You can then move this window freely across the entire desktop screen.
All features of the desktop version are listed below.
Down arrow for expansion
In the far left corner of the screen you will see an arrow extending downwards. Clicking the arrow (during a video call) enlarges the video screen in the Discordance area to its maximum height.
Screen replacement video
At the bottom of the screen you will see two icons (after starting the video call). Use these two icons to share the video of the call to enable screen sharing. At this point, you know the video call icon, but what about the split screen?
The icon to the left of the video call indicates the screen sharing icon, or the monitor icon with the arrow in the middle is the screen sharing icon.
You can switch from one phone to another at any time during a call. When sharing between a video call and a split screen, you can select the monitor screen or a specific application window to share.
The best thing I found is that you can share images between your monitor screen and the application window by clicking on the screen sharing icon.
Output call button
As the name indicates, the video call ends when you click the Exit Call icon. Avoid pressing this key until your call is finished.
Stupid settings
The Mute icon is represented by the microphone icon and is located to the right of the Exit Call icon. By pressing the Mute button, you can turn your microphone on or off. There is also an icon for custom settings on the right, similar to the icon in the Disk Home window.
Switching to full screen
To fully enlarge the video call screen regardless of the current view, click the Fullscreen Switching icon. And to exit full screen mode, press the ESC key.
Video room
If you want to focus on a specific user during a group video call, you must click on the user’s avatar to focus on that user’s video, while the other users are displayed in the tent to the right. However, if you want to change the focus on another user during a video call, click the other user’s avatar from the Bookmark menu.
Functions for sharing screens and video calls on a smartphone
The user interface of the Discord application is slightly different for the smartphone version. Unfortunately, the screensharing function is not yet available for the smartphone version. If you want to share your screen via Discord, you must upgrade to the desktop version.
However, there are some interesting features you can use on your iPhone or Android while on Discord.
Mute
You will see three icons in the bottom centre of the smartphone’s screen, with the Toggle Mute icon on the right. When you press this key, you can switch the phone’s microphone on or off.
Sliding chamber
At the bottom center of your smartphone’s screen, on the left, is the Toggle Camera icon. You can install the camera and turn it on and off at any time during a call.
Camera switch
It is also possible to switch from the front camera to the rear camera and vice versa. The icon for changing the camera image is displayed by a camera with a double arrow.
Audio output (iOS only)
Audio is an exclusive feature of the Conversation application, available only to iPhone users. It is located in the upper right corner (next to the Toggle Camera icon). This function allows you to switch the audio output between wireless headphones and iPhone’s normal speakers.
Enabling sound when using screen parts
Discord also allows you to turn on the on-screen sound while sharing the screen with other users. If you want other users to hear everything, you need to change the sound below the application window.
This special feature appears when you train other users on certain applications.
Repair the hard disk of the screen Part black screen
Undoubtedly, screensharing and video calls are interesting features of the Conversation application, but there are some bugs. Because of these errors, you will see a black screen in the conversation application window.
Even if you see a black screen in front of it, you don’t have to worry. The problem can be solved in the following way.
- Restart your computer and open the Discord application again. Start the video call and share the screen and make sure everything is working properly.
- Update the GPU drivers to the latest version. In some cases the screen turns black due to the automatic switching of the GPU.
- Delete all unnecessary files and the Diskord application cache.
- If the problem persists, the last resort is to uninstall the application and then reinstall it. In case the screen flicker is due to a corrupt application.
Repair reset – display audio release does not work
Another error that may occur is disabling audio when sharing screens or making video calls on the chat server. With the latest update of the application, Discord would have solved the problem, but if you still have problems, follow the methods below to solve them.
- The most common solution is to make sure that the sound button (below the application window) is turned on.
- Delete all unnecessary files and the Diskord application cache.
- Selects a specific request window instead of entering the screen when using the screen splitting function.
- If the problem persists, it means that the application is damaged. The last option would then be to uninstall the application and then reinstall it.
