Nintendo’s 3rd Quarter FY 2020 Financial Results –

Nintendo has just announced its results for the third quarter of the current financial year (1 April 2019 – 31 December 2019), and these results are very positive for the company. Turnover in this period was 1,022.6 billion yen. Operating profit amounted to Yen 262.9 billion. Ordinary profit was 273.8 billion yen.

Turnover of Nintendo Switch was 17.74 million units sold in the period (an increase of 22.5% over the previous year). This includes 12.56 million for the original Switch model and 5.19 million for the Switch Lite, which was launched on the 20th. September 2019 has been introduced. Last year, Nintendo sold 14.49 million Switch systems during the same period. The total number of Nintendo Switches installed worldwide is now 52.48 million! New releases have sold well throughout the year, including Super Mario Maker 2 with 5.04 million, Zelda : Link’s Awakening at 4.19 million, Fire Emblem: Three houses with 2.58 million and Ring of Suitable Adventure with 2.17 million. Zelda also had open effects in the beginning: Breath of the Wild sold a further 3.56 million units (16.34 million units sold for life), Super Mario Odyssey brought in 2.15 million units (16.59 million units sold for life) and Super Mario Party brought in 2.72 million units (9.12 million units sold for life).

Nintendo forecasts sales of 140 million games for the financial year. Featuring titles such as Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Again, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon : DX rescue team, and animal passage: New Horizons will be released in the next quarter, and it seems that they are well on their way to achieving this goal.
