The Nintendo Switch sells like crazy in the United States: During the week of Thanksgiving (24-30 November) more than 830,000 units were sold. This set a new record for the best U.S. sales week in the history of Nintendo switches.
Why do you ask? Several factors triggered the changeover. First of all: The reality is that the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will come out the next holiday, which means that this generation of consoles comes to an end. But the Switch was launched in 2017 and has more than a few years to live, so it is certainly easier for buyers to get into Nintendo gaming.
Secondly, let’s not forget that a new Switch Lite has been added to the family of systems. The starting price of $199 is certainly a good deal for many families, but also for those who prefer pocket games over TV games.
Third: Switch had an exceptional year with first and third content. Mammoth games like Pokémon Sword & Shield and Luigi’s Mansion 3 have undoubtedly sold many systems. Then you’ve got games like Fire Emblem: Three Homes, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Dragon Quest XI S, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, The Witcher 3, and Overwatch (to name a few), which did an excellent job in completing the library. Not to mention the fact that there are now about 3,000 games in the online shop! In other words: There’s something for everyone.
Fourth: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best-selling game in the system, and if you pack this popular game for Black Friday, it makes a profit! Although it’s the same deal Nintendo worked with last year, it seems to be a big hit in this series as well.
Finally, and not to be underestimated, Nintendo’s advertising this year has been particularly relevant. They really came back with the idea that games can be played anywhere, anytime. Their My Way To Play series of commercials and videos resonated with gambling audiences.
With a wealth of exclusive content and surprisingly fun games, it’s good to see that the Switch continues to sell at a steady pace. Let’s see what’s planned for 2020, and let’s bring hope to Zelda: The breath of nature Two kilometres, that’s next year!
