Resource Monitoring Tool for Linux

BpyTOP is another tool of Linux for resource monitoring, among many other tools such as top, Htop, Bashtop, etc. Bashtop users can expect similar functionality from bpytop, as bpytop is ported from bashtop and written entirely in Python. Bpytop is available for various Linux and MacOS distributions.

Installation of BpyTOP – Resource Monitoring Tool under Linux

There are several ways to install bpytop. You can use a specific package manager for your distribution, use a snap-in package or build it manually.

Setting up BpyTOP with the PIP Packet Manager

First check the version of python running on your Linux distribution by entering the correct line.

$ python3 — version

Check the installed version of Python

Check if the pip from the python package manager is installed, if not, install pip3 using our article on installing pip in different Linux distributions.

install sudo apt python3-pip [On Debian/Ubuntu]
$ install sudo yum python-pip [On CentOS/RHEL]
$ install sudo dnf python3 [On Fedora]

Now all our dependencies are satisfied with the installation of bpytop.

$ sudo pip3 set bpytop

Installation of Bpytop under Linux

A WARNING is ejected during installation. Bpytop is installed in .local/bin under my home directory, which is not part of the PATH environment variable. We now add the path to the PATH variable.

$ export PATH=$PATH:/home/tecmint/.local/bin
$ echo $PATH

Installing BpyTOP using theGIT repository

Make sure Git is installed on your computer, because we need to clone the GitHub package. To install bpytop manually, follow these steps

sudo apt-get install git [in Debian/Ubuntu]
$ sudo yum install git [in CentOS/RHEL/Fedora]
$ git clone https://github.com/aristocratos/bpytop.git
$ cd bpytop
$ sudo make install

Installation of BpyTOP with Package Manager

For Ubuntu/Debian bpytop is available at the Azlux repository. Follow the steps below to get Repo and install bpytop.

$ echo deb http://packages.azlux.fr/debian/ buster main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/azlux.list
$ wget -qO – https://azlux.fr/repo.gpg.key | add sudo apt-key –
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install bpytop

For Fedora and CentOS/RHEL bpytop with EPEL deposit is available.

$ ship-needle set epil release
$ ship-needle set bpytop

For Arch Linux, use the AUR repository as shown in the figure.

git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/bpytop.git
cd bpytop
makepkg -si

You can now start the application. Start bpytop by turning bpytop in the terminal.

$ high heel

In the top left corner you can switch between menu modes and options.

There are 3 different modes. You can change the display in the menu → Display Mode or change the mode as in the previous picture.
