How to Reactivate Windows 10 After a Major Hardware Change

The reader’s question:
Hey, Wally, I recently had to fix my laptop that wouldn’t turn on. I was told the motherboard had been replaced. Anyway, since then the laptop is working normally again, but Windows 10 shows me this error and tells me to activate it. I didn’t reinstall Windows (although I was told it should work well, even if it did). I don’t know what to do anymore. Do you have any ideas? Thank you – Lisa D., Canada

Before solving a computer problem, I always recommend scanning and correcting the underlying problems that affect the health and performance of your PC:

  • Step 1 : Download the PC repair and optimization program (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click the Start scan button to detect problems in the Windows registry that may cause problems with the PC.
  • Step 3 : Click the Restore All button to solve all problems.

Setting up automatic weekly (or daily) scanners will help you avoid system problems and get your PC up and running quickly and smoothly.

Wally’s answer: There’s nothing to worry about. Windows 10 identifies computers by their hardware. However, if we have a critical component such as B. that replaces the motherboard, Windows can no longer identify the computer and therefore displays this error. Fortunately, it’s not that difficult to repair.

Problem

Windows can no longer find a license for your device.

Soil

Since Windows 8, Microsoft has implemented a method to activate Windows by saving the Windows key in the EFU of the computer.

This measure was introduced to prevent a single copy of Windows 10 from being installed on multiple computers.

Therefore, replacing the motherboard may cause this problem with preinstalled computers.

Solution

You will need to re-activate Windows to work without this annoying activation error.

Press Windows+X and choose Settings from the context menu.

Click Update and Security to open it.

Click Activate as shown in the figure below.

You should see a troubleshooting link on your computer that looks like the one shown below. Please click on it and let it run for a while.

At the end, the troubleshooter displays a results page that says Troubleshooting is Complete.

Click on the link titled I have recently changed the hardware on this device, as shown below.

Log in to your Microsoft account and follow the steps to reactivate the windows on your computer. And you’re done. Bravo! Bravo!

Is your PC in good health?

I always advise my readers to regularly use a reliable registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many of the problems that arise can be attributed to a corrupt and inflated register.
