Automatically hiding the taskbar can be a great way to free up extra space on your desktop. But sometimes she can be adamant not to hide when she should. Here are some tips to hide the taskbar again.

What prevents the taskbar from hiding automatically?

When you use the automatic hide feature, the Windows taskbar remains hidden until an application needs your attention. For normal applications, this usually means that the button on the application’s taskbar will blink before you start. For example, the Skype application flashes in the taskbar when you receive a new call. In this case, you can simply click this button in the taskbar to tell the application that you have seen what you want, and the taskbar will disappear again.

For background applications that have an icon in the notification area, two separate actions can leave the taskbar unchanged. First, if you have an icon on the icon or an actual icon change that indicates that the application needs your attention. In the Slack application, for example, a small red dot appears on the normal icon to alert you when you receive a new message.

The second case is more common in Windows 8 and earlier versions when a summary of the message is displayed. The taskbar often remains visible until you close the message. Of course, you can also simply close them or set them not to be displayed. This scenario does not actually happen in Windows 10 because the notifications disappear by themselves and you can view them later in the Action Center.

Find hidden symbols

Sometimes the icons hidden in the taskbar are the reason why they are not automatically hidden. These icons are located in the taskbar and can be accessed by clicking on the up arrow on the far right of the taskbar.

They don’t know the app needs attention if it’s hidden. So it’s a good idea to check them out. Open the notification icon and solve the reason why the taskbar is not hidden.

You can also solve this problem in the future by dragging the icons of certain applications that sometimes draw attention to the taskbar. If the application is still not highlighted, you can try right-clicking on all visible applications to see if the problem disappears by itself.

For any application that poses such a problem, it is preferable to set up notifications or turn them off completely.
