Instagram has a DM function that allows you to send private and group messages to other people. In addition to text messages, you can also send photos, videos, GIFs, links and locations. You can even make voice and video calls through the application.

Download the Instagram application for Windows 10

Sending photos and videos
First of all, you need access to a camera and microphone to take photos and send videos via chat.
If your computer is equipped with a webcam, you can take a selfie or press and hold to start the video. After clicking on a selfie you can always add stickers or smileys to your photo.
Follow the steps below to start sending photos and videos.
Step one: Tap the camera icon in the lower left corner of the Messaging screen.
Step two: Click on Enable Camera Access and Enable Microphone Access. Press Yes to confirm.
Instagram microphones are turned off by default. In order to access your microphone, you must give permission for the application.
Step one: Go to the Windows settings (press the Windows and I keys simultaneously). Then click on Privacy.
Step two: On the left you will see two types of permissions, Windows and App. Click on the Microphone button in the Request Authorisations section.
Step three: Scroll down to Instagram and make sure the switch is on.
Now go back to the Instagram application and try to access the microphone again.
The desktop version of Instagram is more useful and powerful than the website, but not as good as the mobile version.

Install the Instagram on the Emulator
If you don’t have Windows 10 installed on your computer, or if you don’t like the Instagram for Windows 10 application, there is another method, which is to mimic a smartphone to send messages and use other Instagram features on your computer.

Knox is an alternative to BlueStacks. It is a more stable and smooth emulator for games and applications. It supports both Windows and MacOS. Unlike the Premium level of BlueStacks, Nox only has a free version.

- Supported macOS version: macOS Sierra 10.12 or higher, including macOS Catalina 10.15.
The following steps are necessary to get the Nox player up and running.
